CPS-recommended scholar receives 2023 AAPPS-APCTP C. N. Yang Award

2023-11-22

On November 6th, the award ceremony for the '2023 AAPPS-APCTP C. N. Yang Award' was held in Gyeongju, South Korea. Dr. Li Li from the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was honored with the 2023 C. N. Yang Award, recommended by the Chinese Physical Society, for his research contributions in the fields of black holes, quantum matter, and complex systems. The citation for his award reads: 'For his contributions in understanding the nature of black holes and in shedding new light on the phenomenology of quantum matter and complex systems.'

Dr. Zhang Liyong from Beijing Normal University was also awarded for his pioneering research on heavy element synthesis in the first stars via nuclear reactions in deep underground laboratories. Dr. Li Danfeng from City University of Hong Kong was recognized for his discovery and synthesis of the first nickel oxide superconductor.

The AAPPS-APCTP C. N. Yang Award is jointly established by the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies (AAPPS) and the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP). It aims to recognize outstanding research achievements by young scientists in the Asia Pacific region and promote the development of young physicists in the field of physics. The award is presented annually to three recipients. This marks the fifth consecutive year that scholars recommended by the Chinese Physical Society have received this award. Previously, based on the society's recommendations, Dr. He Song from the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Liu Xiongjun from Peking University were honored with the C. N. Yang Award in 2019. Dr. Zhang Jinsong from Tsinghua University and Dr. Liu Zhiqing from Shandong University received the award in 2020. Dr. Fang Chen from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Chen Yangping from China Institute of Atomic Energy were awarded in 2021. Dr. Wang Jianwei from Peking University received the award in 2022."

Introduction of the award recipient's work:

Li Li primarily conducts research in the fields of black hole physics, gravity/gauge duality, and cosmology. In recent years, he has achieved a series of innovative research outcomes, including proving the no-hair theorem for black holes and understanding the dynamics inside black holes, elucidating quantum matter and complex system behaviors through black hole physics and effective field theory, and proposing a chameleon dark energy mechanism to address the Hubble constant crisis. These research works have garnered extensive attention and positive evaluations from peers both domestically and internationally
