Winners of the 2022-2023 Chinese Physical Society Physics Awards

In 2023, after the evaluation by the selection committees of the Chinese Physical Society's various physics awards and the review by the Physics Award Fund Committee, the following decisions were made:

  • "Professor SUI Manling from Beijing University of Technology and Researcher XUE Peng from Beijing Computational Science Research Center were awarded the 2022-2023 XIE XiDE Physics Award (Women in Physics) by the Chinese Physical Society.

  • "Researcher ZHU Rui from Peking University and Professor CHEN Huanyang from Xiamen University were awarded the 2022-2023 SA BEN-DONG Applied Physics Award by the Chinese Physical Society.

  • "Professor LIU Xiongjun from Peking University and Researcher LU Ling from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences were awarded the 2022-2023 ZHOU PEIYUAN Physics Award by the Chinese Physical Society.

  • "Professor XiANG Hongjun from Fudan University and Professor YAO Wang from the University of Hong Kong were awarded the 2022-2023 HUANG KUN Physics Award (Solid State Physics and Semiconductor Physics) by the Chinese Physical Society.

  • Researcher WAN Baonian from Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor ZHENG Jian from the University of Science and Technology of China were awarded the 2022-2023 CAI SHIDONG Plasma Physics Award by the Chinese Physical Society.

ZHU Rui and his collaborators have made important achievements in the device fabrication, physical mechanism study and application development of high-performance perovskite solar cells.

CHEN Huanyang and his collaborators have achieved significant results in the field of transformation optics and its applied physics. They have proposed the theory of transformation acoustics and successfully extended it to the manipulation of surface water waves.

Peking University

LIU Xiong-Jun made significant contributions to the quantum simulation of topological phases with ultracold atoms and to the non-Abelian statistics of Majorana modes in topological superconductors.

LU Ling

Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

LU Ling and collaborators contributed significantly to topological photonics, including coining the name of this new field, discovering Weyl points, and inventing the topological-cavity surface-emitting laser.

Prof. XIANG Hongjun and his collaborators have made significant achievements in establishing a unified polarization model for multiferroicity, developing corresponding computational methods and programs, and understanding the mechanism of ferroelectricity and multiferroicity.

YAO Wang

University of Hong Kong

The prediction of valley optical selection rule, valley Hall effect, and valley magnetic moment by YAO Wang and his co-workers laid down the theory foundation for versatile controls of valley pseudospin in two dimensional semiconductors and their layered structures, thereby opening an important research direction – valley optoelectronics .

WAN Baonian

Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Relying on the China’s Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), WAN Baonian and his research group achieved success in experimentally keeping the high confinement long pulse plasma in stable operation.

ZHENG Jian

University of Science and Technology of China

ZHENG Jian developed important laser plasma interaction theories closely related to the inertial fusion project, and obtained outstanding achievements in characterization of experimental fusion plasma.
