The 8th International Conference on Women in Physics (ICWIP 2023) was held online from July 10th to 14th, 2023, organized by India. This series of conferences is organized by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) Working Group 5 and takes place every three years. The previous seven conferences were held in Paris, France (2002), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2005), Seoul, South Korea (2008), Stellenbosch, South Africa (2011), Waterloo, Canada (2014), Birmingham, UK (2017), and online in Australia (2021). The conference aims to promote gender equality among women and men in physics, empower women in physics to play a greater role, and contribute to the sustainable development of new science.

Representatives from nearly 70 countries and regions attended the Conference. Led by Director Jin Kuijuan of the CPS Women in Physics Committee, the CPS organized a delegation of five to participate in the Conference. Members included: member of the IUPAP Working Group on Women in Physics, Deputy Director of the CPS Women in Physics Committee, Professor Peng Ruwen from Nanjing University; Professor Xu Limei from Peking University; Professor Liu Weitao from Fudan University; Researcher Lu Ying from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Liu Yu, a doctoral student currently studying at Nanjing University.

The Conference featured 8 keynote presentations and 1 symposium. Renowned female physicists shared her research achievements and experiences, institutional racism and gender discrimination in science, educational changes in developing countries, and the impact of COVID-19 on the scientific ecosystem. The Conference featured five thematic session, namely "Physics Education", "Social Science Data Analysis for Physicist", "Interrogating Physics Practice with an Intersectionality Lens", "Women's Leadership in Physics", and "The role of women in science for development". Professor Peng Ruwen, as one of the co-chairs of the first IUPAP session, took part in organizing the "Physics Education" discussion. Professor Xu Limei presented a report titled "Efforts for gender equality in Chinese higher education institutions" in the same session.

The conference arranged a national poster session and a scientific research poster session. Researcher Ying Lu introduced the situation of the online roundtable discussion among Chinese women physicists during the COVID-19 period in the national poster session. Professor Ruwen Peng, Professor Weitao Liu, and Dr. Yubo Liu presented their new research progress in the scientific research poster session. Additionally, Professor Ruwen Peng also participated in the AAPPS-WIP subgroup seminar.
