"Big Hand holds Little Hand" Popularization of Science Sichuan Campus Lecture Tour Successfully Held

On December 7th 2022, "Promoting the Spirit of Science and Dedicating to the 20th CPC National Congress - the Big Hand Holds Little Hand Sichuan Campus Tour" kicked off in Chengdu Tianfu 7th Middle School in Sichuan Province in both an online and offline format.
The event was supported by the Youth Science and Technology Center of the China Association for Science and Technology, organized by the Chinese Physical Society, and hosted by the Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Center, Sichuan Tianfu New Area Science and Technology Innovation and Talent Service Bureau, Sichuan Tianfu New Area Community Governance and Social Affairs Bureau, Chengdu Science and Technology Innovation Service Center, Ganzi Prefecture Education and Sports Bureau, and Jiuzhaigou County Education Bureau. Tianfu 7th Middle School, Sichuan Luding Middle School, Jiuzhaigou County Middle School and Sichuan Zhaoge Middle School co-organized.
Academician Xu Zuyan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Academician Cai Ronggen of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the opening ceremony and gave the reports online.Wei Hongxiang, director of the Science Popularization Working Committee of the Chinese Physical Society, Xia Hong, director of the Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Center and vice chairman of the Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Education Association, Yang Yuandong, deputy secretary of the Party and Government Education and Health Commission of Tianfu New District and deputy director of the Community Governance and Social Bureau, attended the event and delivered speeches. Professor Song Feng, the expert representative of the report team, and the principals and student representatives of Luding Middle School, Jiuzhaigou County Middle School, Zhaojue Middle School, and Tianfu Seventh Middle School, the co-organizers of the event, attended the opening ceremony.
At the launching ceremony, Wei Hongxiang delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese Physical Society. He firstly introduced the "Big Hand Holds Little Hand" popularization of science event and the expert group of Chinese Physics Society, pointing out that this event aims to unite science and technology experts to promote the spirit of science and scientist in the form of popularization lectures for young people and to promote the scientific quality of young people.
Xia Hong, representing the Sichuan Provincial Youth Science and Technology Center, warmly congratulated the launch of the "Big Hand Holds Little Hand Science Popularization Sichuan Campus Lecture Tour. The tour, according to her, combines the expertise of youth science and technology education professionals, fosters young people's interest in and passion for science and technology, and strengthens their capacity for innovation and practicality. It is the responsibility of all science and technology instructors to actively encourage today's students to develop a scientific mindset and attitude.
Yang Yuandong, on behalf of the Education, Health and Social Affairs Committee, Community Governance and Social Affairs Bureau of Tianfu New Area, expressed sincere welcome to all academicians and experts, and expressed gratitude to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Physical Society, Provincial and Municipal Science and Technology Associations and other units that have long been concerned and supported the education of Tianfu New Area. He said that he will take this large-scale popular science report as an opportunity to accelerate the formation of a talent training model with regional and school characteristics, and contribute to the high-quality development of education in the new area.
Professor Song Feng of Nankai University, speaking on behalf of the expert team at the opening ceremony, promised that the teaching experts will carefully plan out and support the popular science initiatives. Academicians Xu Zuyan and Cai Ronggen then presented reports on popular science with the titles "Black Hole: Past and Present" and "Laser TV-Chinese Dream of Chinese Television Seen by Chinese People," respectively. Academician Cai chose the topic of black holes and engaged the students in discussions about gravitational theory, superstring theory, black hole physics, the origins of the universe, dark energy, and gravitational wave physics. The students present at the scene shown a keen interest in the report's information and actively participated in the interactive session with the two professors.
A group of professionals from the Big Hand Little Hand Science Popularization Union gathered on December 8 to conduct science popularization activities in middle and elementary schools in Chengdu, Ganzi, Aba and Liangshan of Sichuan Province. Professor Song Feng, the national team coach of the Physics Competition and professor of Nankai University, shared a lecture entitled "Nanophosphorescent Materials and Optical Performance Regulation" to the teachers and students of Luding Middle School and Tianfu Seventh Middle School, introducing the relevant knowledge of nanophosphorescent materials and its application in life.Professor Zhang Xiwen of Tsinghua University introduced the basic concepts of aerospace, different types of aircraft and the development direction of future aircraft to the students. Professor Mu Liangzhu of Peking University and Professor Pei Li of Beijing Jiaotong University respectively shared the wonderful reports of "What is Physics" and "Entering the Magical Optical Communication World" to the teachers and students of Jiuzhaigou County Middle School and Zhaojue Middle School in Sichuan Province, which aroused great interest among the students.
The local school teachers and students applauded this campus lecture activity for giving children a chance to learn the scientific knowledge at the cutting edge, appreciate the mannerisms of scientists, and build their scientific spirit.
"Big Hand Holds Little Hand Science Popularization Report Union" is an alliance organization of scientists' report team, initiated and established by the Youth Science Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2020, mainly composed of influential science popularization report teams from national academies, universities, scientific research institutes, local science associations, science and technology enterprises, and national science popularization education bases. The alliance currently has 51 member teams. The Science Popularization Lecture Team of Chinese Physical Society is one of the members.
