CPS Fall Meeting 2022 Concluded Successfully

CPS Fall Meeting 2022 was held at Southern University of Science and Technology from November 18 to 20, the first time the academic meeting took place in Shenzhen. Zhang Jie, President of Chinese Physical Society (CPS) and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Qin Weizhong, mayor of Shenzhen, Xue Qikun, President of Southern University of Science and Technology, Vice President of CPS and Academician of CAS attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The awarding ceremony of the 2021-2022 CPS Physics Prize was held at the opening ceremony, during which Zhao Zhengguo, Vice President of CPS and Academician of CAS, announced the winners. At the meeting, four experts from different fields including Dr. Ho Kwang Mao, the Director of Center for High Pressure Science and Technology Advanced Research in China, Wang Nanlin, Chair professor at Peking University, Academician Zhao Hongwei, Institute of Modern Physics, CAS, and Di Li, Chief Scientist, National Astronomical Observatories, CAS, were invited to give speeches.
The CPS Fall Meeting 2022 had a total of 3,456 registered participants and received 1,493 reports. Consisting of 21 sessions, the Joint Session covered themes including A. Particle Physics, Field Theory and Cosmology, B. Nuclear Physics and Accelerator Physics, C. Atomic and Molecular Physics, D. Optical Physics, E. Plasma Physics, F. Nano and Mesoscopic Physics, G. Surface Physics and Low-dimensional Physics, H. Semiconductor Physics, I. Strong Correlation and Superconducting Physics, J. Magnetics, K. Soft Condensed Matter and Biological Physics, L. Quantum Information, M. Computational Physics, N. Statistical Physics and Complex Systems, O. Dielectric Physics, P. Liquid Crystal, Q. Ultrafast Physics, R. High Energy Density Physics, S. Topological Materials, Physics and Devices, T. Physics Education, and U. Large-scale Facilities for Science. Organized in a hybrid format, the Joint Session was live-streamed on the academic platform KouShare, whose statistics showed that the number of online viewers of the CPS Fall Meeting 2022 reached nearly 340,000.
It is especially worth mentioning that under the complex international circumstances, CPS insisted on promoting the cooperation with physical societies from other countries by jointly organizing the Joint Session on Large-scale Facilities for Science with APS, IOP, DPG and JPS. The Joint Session attracted more than 7,000 attendees to participate online and on-site, during which dozens of experts from home and abroad delivered keynote speeches.
As the year 2022 marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of CPS, a celebration was held during the conference. Nearly 400 guests attended the celebration, including experts and scholars from CPS, various societies, universities and colleges, research institutes and enterprises collaborating with CPS, as well as representatives of faculty members and students from Southern University of Science and Technology.
The Lifetime Contribution Award of CPS was also announced at the CPS 90th anniversary celebration. Ten distinguished physicists received the award. They are Zhou Guangzhao, Zhao Kaihua, Chen Jiaer, Wang Naiyan, Gan Zizhao, Yang Guozhen, Du Xiangwan, Zhao Guangda, Zheng Zhipeng, and Zhao Zhongxian.
Over the past 90 years, the CPS has made outstanding contributions in leading and promoting the development of physics in China, and has played an important role in fostering innovation. Now it is standing at a new historical starting point. After 90 years of splendid development, CPS has made the CPS Fall Meeting an iconic event in the physics community in China, and is playing an increasingly important role in facilitating global scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation. We are looking forward to seeing you again at the CPS Fall Meeting 2023 held in Ningxia University next year!
