The Chinese Physical Society (CPS) and the American Physical Society (APS) have successfully co-hosted this profound event, honoring one of the greatest female scientists of the 20th century, Madame Chien-Shiung Wu, in commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of Prof. Wu's Birth. More than 10 platforms live-stream broadcasted the event and over 120,000 people participated online.

ZHANG Jie, the president of Chinese Physical Society made the keynote speech titled"Chien-Shiung Wu - A Phenomenal Exemplar for Our Generation
- In commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of Prof. Wu's Birth
". In his speech, Prof. Zhang mentioned that Wu was lucky enough to be the beneficiary of the careful guidance from the first generation of physicists in China as she entered the world of science. These predecessors in physics not only laid the foundation for modern physics in China but also created the Chinese Physical Society.
This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the CPS. On behalf of the CPS, he took this opportunity to pay tribute to the founders of the organization, who have kindled physics education and physics studies in China.

Appreciation Letter from C S Wu's son (Vincent Yuan) and granddaughter (Jada Yuan).

Many thanks to the organizers, the speakers, and to you in particular for organizing the wonderful tribute to my mother and Jada's grandmother, Chien-Shiung Wu.  It obviously took great dedication on your part to pull it off, and Jada and I are very grateful that you were willing to put in the effort to oversee everything.  We were especially encouraged to see the participation of so many accomplished women in the event. Many pointed out that in addition to her scientific accomplishments, my mother fought for a woman's equality in appointments to the higher ranks of academia both in administration and teaching.  It seemed like a fitting representation of my mother's quote, "I wonder whether the tiny atoms and nuclei, the mathematical symbols or the DNA molecules have any preferences for either masculine or feminine treatment"

I also would like to add that her thoughts went beyond the belief in equal intellectual capabilities, she also pointed out men and women's rights to enjoy the spoils of their accomplishments:

"In science and technology we dedicate ourselves to the study of nature, to the understanding of our environment, and incidentally to the betterment of life. It is the highest form of aspiration as well as satisfaction.  It is a fulfillment of human passion.  If, in this human society, women are endowed with just as many intellectual capabilities as men, why then should they be deprived of such aspiration and fulfillment?  Why should they not share the responsibilities (and the satisfactions) of the progress of science with men?"

It was a wonderful, inspiring program, and we are so grateful for your work and the contributions of everyone involved.

Thank you.

 Vincent and Jada Yuan

Professor Liu Jianglai (刘江来). Professor Liu is the head of the delegation. He is a distinguished professor of physics of Shanghai Jiaotong University. Professor Liu completed his undergraduate studies in physics from Nanjing University (the Alma Mater of Madame Wu), and his Ph.D. and postdoctoral training at the University of Maryland and California Institute of Technology, respectively. He is well known in research areas such as dark matter and neutrino.

Professor Tang Xiaodong (唐晓东). Professor Tang is currently the leader of the nuclear astrophysics group of the Institute of Modern Physics, CAS and adjunct professor of Lanzhou University. Professor Tang completed his physics undergraduate studies at Nanjing (the Alma Mater of Madame Wu) and his Ph.D. in nuclear physics in the Cyclotron Laboratory of Texas A&M University. Before returning to China, he was a postdoc at the Argonne National Laboratory and also was an assistant professor of physics at the University of Notre Dame. He is an expert in nuclear astrophysics.

Professor Yang Haijun (杨海军). Professor Yang is the director of the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics of Shanghai Jiaotong University. He completed his Ph.D. in physics through a joint-sponsorship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of High Energy Physics and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. He was a postdoc and research faculty at the University of Michigan. He is an expert in machine learning for particle physics and collider experiments. Research wise, he was part of the CERN L3 experiment, the American FermiLab’s MiniBooNE experiment, now the LHC ATLAS experiment and deputy project director of the future Higgs factory - CEPC.

American Physical Society (APS) Encourages High School Teachers and Students Interested in Science to Participate in the Event to Honor Madame Chien-Shiun Wu

Dear Physics Teaching Colleagues:

Your students no doubt know about the great Mme. Curie, but have they heard of Mme. Wu?Please help us publicize an upcoming Sept. 24 symposium (both real world and online Webinar) honoring the remarkable Dr. Chien Shiung Wu. This event is sponsored jointly by the American and Chinese Physical Societies and many others.

A Chinese immigrant to the U.S. born 1912, C.S. Wu was perhaps the most outstanding woman experimental physicist of her time … the “Queen of Nuclear Science”. Her accomplishments were amazing: from work on the Manhattan Project, to conducting the first experiment to show that “the universe is left-handed” (mirror-symmetry does not apply to all interactions), to being the first woman president of the world’s largest society of physicists (the American Physical society). Wu was nominated many times for a Nobel Prize and won a stunning series of other prizes during her lifetime. There was a U.S. stamp issued in her honor in 2021.
